UN Trade and Development's video: International Day of Non-Violence - Mukhisa Kituyi

@International Day of Non-Violence - Mukhisa Kituyi
UNCTAD Secretary-General's message for International Day of Non-Violence 2020. "I am pleased to join with the entire UN family to celebrate the international day of non-violence on October 2 honoring the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, as established by resolution of the United Nations General Assembly. Gandhi famously asks us to “Recall the face of the poorest and the weakest man or woman whom you may have seen, and ask yourself if the step you contemplate is going to be of any use to them? Will they gain anything by it? Will it restore them to control over their own life and destiny? In other words, will it lead to freedom for the hungry and spiritually starving millions?” This is the yardstick by which we must benchmark our development progress: that no one should be left behind and that we must put the furthest behind first. In this way, Gandhi’s timeless lessons of liberation and self-sufficiency continue to inspire our conviction at the United Nations that the division of the world into areas of poverty and plenty may be banished and prosperity achieved by all."
