Military Tech's video: The US Returns to Send 2 Warships to the Taiwan Strait despite China s Opposition

The United States military has sent two Navy warships to the Taiwan Strait on Sunday. Pentagon ships are still desperate to cross the strategic waterway even though China is opposed. "Transit of ships through the Taiwan Strait shows the US commitment to a free and open Indo-Pacific," the US Pacific Fleet said in a statement quoted by Reuters on Monday (04/29/2019). The two destroyer warships were identified as USS William P. Lawrence and USS Stethem. In March the US Navy sent a destroyer type warship, USS Curtis Wilbur, and ship cutter Coast Guard (USGC) Bertholf across the Taiwan Strait to demonstrate US commitment to freedom of navigation operations in the region. The US Navy continues to carry out freedom of navigation operations in disputed South China Sea waters, which the Chinese government considers a provocation. China, also known as Mainland China, has repeatedly called on the US to avoid the 110-mile strait for fear that Washington will provide military support to Taiwan. Taiwan is an island that has become a self-governing country since 1949. However, China continues to see Taiwan as its province which must return to its lap. The Taiwan Strait separates Taiwan from China. Relations between the two sides were cut off in 1949 after the remnants of Chiang Kai-shek's forces fled to the island because they lost the civil war. Some ties have been restored in the 1980s.
