President of the United States (US) Donald John Trump finally decided to mobilize around 1,500 additional troops to the Middle East amid tensions with Iran that are increasingly heating up. Speaking to reporters at the White House page shortly before leaving for a visit to Japan on Friday, Trump said the aim of deploying the thousands of troops was to protect US forces in the Middle East. "We want to have protection in the Middle East. We will send a small number of troops," Trump said, as quoted by Reuters on Saturday (05/25/2019). "Right now, I don't think Iran wants to fight. And I certainly don't think they want to fight with us," he said. The Trump administration has told Congress earlier on Friday about plans to deploy troops.
