@SSGT Omar Aceves Military Funeral Jan 21, 2011
Dallas, TX, Jan 21, 2011 US Army Honor Guard transferred the remains of one of their own to the Grace Temple Baptist Church. Family members of SSGT. Omar Aceves and military service members gathered for an open casket viewing. Meanwhile, his children prepared for the military funeral by dawning on military fatigues to pay honors to their father. The family gathered around an oak tree with a yellow ribbon tied around it, and a homemade poster that read, "My daddy, My soldier, My Hero, RIP Daddy". The family then boarded a limousine for the short journey to the church. They were escorted by the Dallas Police Department motorcycle escort and the Patriot Guard Riders. Upon arrival they were greeted by 20 local police, more Patriot Guard Riders, family and friends as they stood silently and at attention. This video highlights a small portion of the funeral services, which includes some of the medal presentations, a eulogy by Brigadier General Matthews, a slide show and a personal message of goodbye by the children. The honor guard from Ft. Hood then transferred the casket to waiting hearse outside. SSGT Aceves and two others Spc. Jarrid L. King, 20, of Erie, Pa. and Pfc. Benjamin G. Moore, 23, of Robbinsville, N.J., who were supporting Operation Enduring Freedom died Jan. 12, in Ghazni province, Afghanistan, of wounds suffered when enemy forces attacked their unit with an improvised explosive device. They were assigned to the 7th Engineer Battalion, 10th Sustainment Brigade, 10th Mountain Division, Fort Drum, N.Y.
