@Geographic Information Systems (GIS) at UVM Info Session
There is increasing demand for professionals in Geospatial Analysis, including health informatics and locational intelligence. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics identifies GIS as a field with a “bright outlook” for future career opportunities. The University of Vermont is a leader in the use of geospatial technologies and research, ranging from creating new information data sets to applied research in support of decision making. A new fully online Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and Data Communication Professional Certificate serves professionals with different academic backgrounds and a variety of disciplines. Students will build skills to gain a promotion, or in some cases, a career change. The program emphasizes knowledge of concepts and theory for critical problem-solving. In this information session, Dr. Gillian Galford, program director for the Certificate and UVM’s Geospatial Technologies, walked prospective students through two exciting new online course offerings in the GIS certificate program starting spring 2021 and fall 2021 at the University of Vermont. Speaker information: Dr. Gillian L. Galford directs the Certificate and UVM’s Geospatial Technologies program. She teaches in UVM’s Environmental Science Program/Rubenstein School of Environment and is a Fellow at the Gund Institute for Environment.
