University of Virginia's video: Arts on the Hill: A Mother s Day Music Marathon

This episode of “Arts on the Hill,” released on Mother’s Day, paid special tribute to mothers throughout the University of Virginia community. The digital show, launched by UVA President Jim Ryan and aide Matt Weber, aims to celebrate the arts and bring the University of Virginia community together virtually each week during the COVID-19 pandemic. The seventh episode was released Sunday with several musical offerings including a string quartet performance featuring Daniel Sender, associate professor of music and concertmaster of the Charlottesville Symphony; a videoconference performance by the Virginia Women’s Chorus; and a rock performance of “Free World” by the band Free Union, featuring UVA Arts event coordinator Rob Dunnenberger and alumnus Tyler Hutcherson. Alumnus and actor Jason George, who plays Dr. Benjamin Warren on ABC’s hit medical drama “Grey’s Anatomy,” makes a special guest appearance, reading an article from The Washingtonian, “Like Something the Lord Made,” to honor first responders to the pandemic. Second-year student Olivia Scheidt performs an outdoor violin solo, and Andie Weaver, senior administrative assistant in the Arts & Sciences dean’s office, reads her poem, “Burnweed.” The program ends with an organ performance by fourth-year student Chelsea Holt. “Arts on the Hill” will take a break next weekend as the University virtually celebrates the Class of 2020.
