Andrew Flintoff Turns Into A Commentator While The Match Is Going On - Very Funny Andrew Flintoff is at his funny best as he comes into bat for the Brisbane Heat The Brisbane Heat's Andrew Flintoff is still finding his feet on the pitch but the former England captain is fast becoming the team's greatest off-field success. Since touching down in Brisbane last month, the marquee signing was instantly one of the most recognisable faces of the Heat and the team has capitalised on his star power. Brisbane Heat general manager, Andrew Blucher, didn't hesitate in labelling Flintoff the team's biggest recruit in its four-year history. Flintoff's crowd-pulling potential saw the Heat create 'Fans of Freddie', an entire membership category dedicated to their marquee man, something not even the Melbourne Stars' notorious English batsman Kevin Pietersen has. The Heat played their first Gabba game on Sunday night in front of 26,730 spectators, their second biggest home crowd ever. Blucher said Flintoff was a large part of that. "That's not all Andrew Flintoff but he certainly helps us," he said. "It's hard to exactly measure the dollars but that major contribution from match sales and corporate boxes, but that's definitely part of the appeal [of recruiting a player like Flintoff]." Despite playing limited cricket since retiring in 2010, Flintoff's cheeky personality has kept him in the spotlight and makes him a publicity magnet, Blucher said. "He's the right style of character to bring that added interest in terms of corporate sales and memberships," he said. "We wouldn't have recruited him if we didn't think he was going to have that impact." As well as his direct responsibilities with the Heat, Blucher said Flintoff's commentary role with Channel 10 would be an invaluable boost for the side. "In the past all the commentators had an allegiance and we didn't really have a voice," he said. "Whenever he's on, he will be talking about the Brisbane Heat in the national coverage and that's a significant thing. "He's almost another arm of the marketing team." Flintoff's larger-than-life personality has been on show since he arrived in Brisbane, with the all-rounder happy to speak his mind on any number of issues. He had a lukewarm start to the season, with a third-ball duck in his first game for the Heat, before an improved performance at his first home game on Sunday night, where he finished with 15 runs and bowling figures of 2/41. Flintoff is one of the Heat's two international signings, along with New Zealander Daniel Vettori. While Vettori has certainly delivered for the Heat, he doesn't share the international profile of Flintoff. "They're similarly quality cricketers but Dan doesn't have the same profile," Blucher said. "Andrew has that genuine star quality." At 37, Flintoff is not a long-term prospect for the Heat but Blucher said he could create some lifetime Heat fans. "He's a strong hook to help build awareness of the Heat brand," he said. "All these things give people a reason to come along...and ultimately they become a passionate supporter of the team, not just someone coming along for a good night out." The former England captain made his Twenty20 return in the English summer, for Lancashire, taking the side to the final.
