Spent the first part of a (bloody hot and sunny) day in beatiful downtown Prague. Really nice city center with beautiful buildings and of course Chales Bridge. Around 18.00 I went to the venue, everything went really smooth with transport and entering, I only brought my mobile phone and wallet. Security was pretty relaxed. Got some merch, T-shirt and signed poster for a little more than 130,- euro!! Everything in Prague was a lot cheaper :-) Got my seating, very far from the stage, close to the roof (I was in section 425). However, for the lightshow and stuff it wasn't that bad. Support act started around 20.00, I did some recording for testing and that worked out OK. I decided to decrease the recording levels with -3.1 dB, I was close to saturation on the diagram and I assumed Tool would play slighly louder ;-) I just put the phone on my lap with the top end aimed towards the stage. Sometimes there's people moving in front of the mic, depressing the level a little. Furthermore, the internal mic isn't that good, causing some variations in recording level. Still got the whole thing. Tool totally blew me away!! I've seen a gazillion bootlegs and Youtube vids but nothing beats the real thing!! My-oh-my-oh-my ... In general very tight and inspired and not sloppy. Band seemed to have fun, MJK sung well. Some thoughts/observations: -Aenema is a fun/interesting opener. Gets all the noses in the right direction ;-) -Frogs at the beginning of Parabol ....? -Descending & Invincible really good. I personally dig Deescending slighly more, but both really cool. Invincible has that new little snippet of guitar play. -I think (but not sure) that MJK at the beginning of Intolerance states: 'This song goes out to the German Chancellor' (AKA Angela Merkel). It think it's NOT Justin Chancellor. One wonders about MJK's reasons ... -Jambi had the Forty-Six & 2 false start thingie, seems a standard tease? Anyway very tight version of Jambi. They messed that up a couple of times this tour, but not this night. -Forty-Six & 2 was solid ... period. During the drumsturbation part there seem to come fireflies or something out of Danny and they all end up in the heptagram, I thought it looked beatiful! -Intermission was 12 minutes, didn't record it. At the end the release date for the new album, august 30th. -CCTrip was really cool with all the purple lights sweeping onto Danny at the start of his drumming. -Thought for a moment that they would play a new tune but it was only the Vicarious intro soundscape, albeit different. That part might still end up on the record as (part of) a tune. -Vicarious an Stinkfist both really good! -MJK took extensive time for thanking his brethren and wasn't in a hurry to get of stage (of course still the first) -Audience behaved really well, the phone-ban seemed to work. I looked a couple of times for mobile screens, but almost none. Really good! All in all a tremendous night, had a blast!! Thanks Tool!
