Living Nomadic Life Full Time In My Minivan Finding Free Camping in Our National Forest and Public Lands Western North Carolina Free Camping Near Hayesville North Carolina we find another free camping spot and spend a few days checking out the area. Huskins Branch Hunters Camp (Fires Creek) 939 Fires Creek Wildlife Rd Hayesville, North Carolina GPS: 35.087154, -83.86673 Elevation: 1810' You may stay 14 nights at this free primitive campground situated on the edge of the Fire's Creek Recreation area. The FCRA, a bear sanctuary, also home to the Fire's Creek Rim Trail . This 25-mile trail follows the ridge around Fires Creek Wildlife Management Area. Other trails in the Fires Creek area are Chunky Gal and Bald Springs. There is a vault toilet but continue up the road a mile and it turns in to Forestry Road 340 where you'll find 10 tables and a restroom Fires Creek Picnic Area.
