Vasili Sha's video: None but the Lonely Heart - March 2017 D C

Near Metro Eastern Market station is located the landmark of the Capital Hill – the Old Naval Hospital of the Civil War (1866). During the fast-flowing time it was rediscovered as a Hill Center of the Washingtonian creativity. Being fortified by 9 paintings of the exhibition “Art on the City,” this video presented images of my romantic view of this historic building after rare for DC’s spring snowfall. The three eminent Washingtonian artists: the venerable topographic landscape painter Andrei Kushnir, mystical abstractionist, Anne Marchand, and vegan master of mythological grotesque, Dana Ellyn (her President Trump on the Satanic beast, as the proclaimer of the DC Apocalypse, is prophetic). On16th March – in the middle times of the exhibition and the video sequence – Hill Center was occupied by the tragic duo – Jarrod Lee, bass-baritone, and pianist Dana Kristina-Joi Morgan. These outstanding artists in the classic traditions of the Washington National Opera presented a musical “journey of three boxers” – heavyweight champions – “In the Smoke of the Sting” (created by Tom Minter). Tragedies of spirit, beauty, and farce in this video sequel are accentuated by the Great Bulgarian bass Boris Christoff who harnessed the universal language of love sufferings to unite the all video sequence by the ardent Russian romance: “Нет, только тот, кто знал / Песнь Миньоны / None but the Lonely Heart / Mignon's song. This # 6 romance of the Six Romances Opus 6 was created by of the Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky (1865) on the words of the Russian poet Lev Alexandrovich Mey (1857) – his excellent translation from the German language the Goethe song of Mignon and the Harpist (1795). Of the time of the American Civil War the Russian romance “None but the Lonely Heart” / ‘Нет, только тот, кто знал” was championed in Western Europe by Ivan Turgenev and his long-life beloved friend, songstress Pauline Viardot (her husband seems also was making this cultural affair). Tchaikovsky – May’s romance “Нет, только тот, кто знал” is one of the well-known and beloved Russian romantic songs of the classical repertoire – forever and everywhere.
