The Story: Being an ignorant singer once I sang one of my songs in front of the then 103 year old Ustad Abdul Rashid Khan saab or Baba as he was fondly known by everyone close to him which includes my wife Bindhumalini a disciple of Baba. The song I sang was received and blessed with a return gift; his words for ‘Mere Khuda’ and Baba said ‘Iska aap Dhun Banao’. I was stunned and so were the people around us. Baba had never given his words to anyone and I was not even his student but I was in total surrender to whatever was happening. I couldn't believe what had just happened and in that shock I couldn't make any tune for those words for nearly two years, it was a huge responsibility. Baba passed away in 2016. And much later I felt I could reach him through his song. And hence with Baba’s blessings the tune flowed and it became a part of the ‘Live Session’. After we had shot the whole session we realised that the hard disc with all the data had crashed. We could retrieve most of it but much of this song was missing. I had lost hope and kept it on hold for almost 2 years and now in this lockdown we gathered courage to somehow put them all together, in the best possible and available shape. Every time I sing this song, it is more of a prayer and less of a song. And I’m sure Baba is still blessing this Ignorant singer.
