@Rusty GAZ-53 Restoration
In today's episode we will show you the renovation of the sheet metal toy car GAZ-53, which youtuber Restoration TIME gave me for which I thank him. Link to his channel: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCOrWR76hrq9F-K_GSc1V-nQ GAZ-53 was a Soviet medium-duty truck. It was produced in series by the Gorkov automobile plant (Russian: ГАЗ - Горьковский автомобильный завод) between 1961 and 1993. Production was definitely discontinued in 1997. This car was actually the third generation (after GAZ-AA / MM and GAZ-51) medium tonnage trucks GAZ. Individual modifications were sequentially designated: GAZ-53F (1961-1967), GAZ-53A (1965-1983), GAZ-53-12 (1983-1993). The GAZ-53 in various designs was one of the largest vehicles on Soviet roads at the time. In total, more than four million units were produced. In parallel, between 1966 and 1989, the GAZ-52, a hybrid model with a six-cylinder inline engine, was produced from the GAZ-51. The driver's cab was the same on both GAZ-52 and GAZ-53. Technical characteristics of GAZ-53-12 engine - 85 kW, 3200 rpm 8-cylinder V-engine, 4-stroke, petrol, 4254 cm² transmission - manual 4 + 1 length - 6 395 mm width - 2 280 mm height - 2190 mm wheelbase - 3,700 mm clear height - 265 mm weight - 3 200 kg load capacity - 4,500 kg tires - 8.25–20 inches fuel tank capacity - 90 l max. speed on paved surface - 90 km / h standard fuel consumption at 40 km / h - 24 l / 100 km If you have some information about cleaning, you can share it with others on my Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/groups/951735661652138/ If you have any questions about the process, use machines or other things, ask me in the comments. I wet the other tires in hot water for 20 minutes to soften the rubber. 03:22 After 20 minutes, it was a bit easier to take off the rim rubber. 03:45 Before removing the old color, I select the color shade from the swatch to mix the new one. 04:02 Color mixing. 04:35 The color is mixed, so I can start removing the old color. Pour water into the container and add sodium hydroxide (caustic) and place the metal colored parts. 05:17 After 24 hours of leaching, the old paint is allowed. Then rinsing with water. 06:00 Sandblasting 06:34 After sandblasting, I applied a tannin rust remover. 07:55 Leveling sheets 08:45 Primer 09:05 To clean the yellow plastic mask I first used a kitchen cleaner, then a hand cleaner with a picture and finally a tooth bast for fine cleaning.  09:58 I applied spray putty to the dried primer. 10:24 A second glue with rubber admixture was used to seal the tire and other cracks.  11:30 Remove any excess adhesive by grinding with P600 and P1000 sandpaper. 11:45 I applied castor oil to the abraded and dried gums to soak and soften the rubber. Wrap in plastic and allow to soak for 24 hours. 12:15 Dried spray putty, sand with P1000 sandpaper 13:10 Spraying with pre-mixed synthetic paint follows. 14:18 After 24 hours, the tires are soaked in oil and we can put them on the rims. To make it easier, I warmed the rubber a little with hot air. 14:50 And we can build :) 15:15 I have made new wheel axles. 16:50 Functionality test :)) 17:19 Comparison before and after renovation.
