Very Nice Travel's video: Meteora Greece

@Meteora, Greece
Meteora is one of the most spectacular and unique places in Greece. Visitors must spend at least one night in the surrounding areas and spend two full days to get an idea of this impressive zone. The closest villages to Meteora are Kastraki and Kalambaka. These unique geological formations, split by earthquakes, weathered by water and wind over millions of years, are nature’s authentic masterpiece. Emerging about 25 million years ago as the elevated seabed material that was the outcome of strong tectonic movements, the Meteora rocks became a shelter of humankind. The main reason for visiting Meteora is to experience the unique landscape and to visit the Byzantine monasteries that house priceless artifacts, Byzantine manuscripts, and wall paintings.To enter the monasteries of Meteora a dress code is strictly enforced.Men must wear long trousers and women long skirts. Sleeveless shirts are not allowed. Above all, Meteora is a place of pilgrimage for Orthodox Christinans the world over. The 24 monasteries emerged on the countless summits of the rocks from the 14th until the 16th century. Today only six monasteries are active with a small number of monks or nuns who reside on Meteora. The Meteora monasteries have been included in the UNESCO World Heritage List and the Meteora-Antichassia region has been officially declared a Natura 2000 Ecological Zone by the Greek Ministry of Environment, for the protection of rare species of birds and flowers. The monasteries of Meteora are: 1. The Holy Monastery of St. Nicholas Anapafsas 2. The Holy Monastery of Roussanou 3. The Holy Monastery of Varlaam 4. The Holy Monastery of Great Meteoron 5. The Holy Monastery of Holy Trinity (Agia Triada) 6. The Holy Monastery of St. Stephen Meteora is a great place to experience , a spectacular landscape and byzantine monasteries perched on top of steep rocks that house priceless artifacts and wall paintings. Meteora is also a great place to go rock climbing and there is a rock climbing school for beginners as well as programs in the area for beginners and advanced climbers.
