@Igoumenitsa (Thesprotia Epirus) Greece
Igoumenitsa is a port city in northwestern Greece. It is also the main port of Regional unit of Thesprotia - Region of Epirus, and one of the largest Greek passenger (ferry) ports connecting northwestern mainland Greece with Italy and the Ionian Islands. Every year several million travellers pass through the city on ferries to and from Ancona, Brindisi, Bari and Venice, as well as Patras and Corfu within Greece. Igoumenitsa is a city with lots of green, beaches with crystal clear waters and green mountains surrounding the town and connects with the new 670 km long Egnatia Highway serving northern Greece. The main street of the city is stretched along the coastal zone, so here you will see beautiful buildings and numerous restaurants. Almost any restaurant has an open terrace, so you can enjoy wonderful dishes of the local cuisine and enjoy fantastic view of the coast. Igoumenitsa has two ports: The New Port and The Old Port. The New Port is the 2nd busiest passenger port of Greece, following Piraeus, even surpassing the seaports Iraklion (Crete) and Patras. Near the port is a picturesque promenade - the location of many popular restaurants, cafes, as well as souvenir shops. Here you can admire the coast and watch the boats residing in the port and a magnificent sunset. In the city there are several beautiful religious monuments. A bright example of national religious architecture is the Annunciation to the Blessed Virgin Mary Orthodox Church . It was built at the end of the 20th century. The historic centre doesn't have many historic buildings due to destruction in the Second World War, but there is an archaeological museum to home to artefacts from the Paleolithic to the Ottoman era. There are also some archaeological excavations on the outskirts of the city. The Castle of Igoumenitsa is located on a hill and was built during Venetian rule, lit was later partly destroyed during the battles with the Turks but is a beautiful place to visit today and is surrounded by a pine forest. The Gulf of Igoumenitsa has beautiful sandy coves where the clear sea invites you to cool down. Nearby Drepano Beach is among the area's longest sand beaches. Its located five kilometres from the city. Igoumenitsa is known for its pine forests and blue crystal waters, and attracts many local travelers from the nearby regions, and specifically from Italy. The city gives the possibility for walks, walking at the beach or mountain, hiking, sports, boating or touch with nature. There are numerous hotels, restaurants, bars, traditional taverns and shops in the city of Igoumenitsa. All in all, Igoumenitsa will certainly appeal to all fans of adventure because this city has everything needed for an active holiday. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ If you like what you see, subscribe and click the bell to enable notifications for more travel videos. https://www.youtube.com/verynicetravel I really appreciate your support! ❤️❤️❤️ ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The content of this channel, including: videos and images must not be downloaded for the purpose of being re-uploaded to YouTube or another 3rd party website or apps.
