Very Nice Travel's video: The old village of Kastraki Greece - Meteora

@The old village of Kastraki, Greece - Meteora
The old village of Kastraki is located at the western part of Meteora in Greece, built among high rocks. It is a department of the municipality of Kalambaka and it is the most touristically developed village of the Prefecture of Trikala. The village provides beautiful accomodation including hotels, camping areas and rooms. You can also find restaurants, coffee shops, shops with local products and icon painting workshops. Kastraki is a most picturesque place with an authentic, local character. Feeling closer to the local lifestyle in the Greek province, enjoying the proximity to nature and finding peace of mind are some of the major assets of this place that urge visitors to book accommodation in this traditional, beautiful village. The architecture of the old village of Kastraki is of remarkable importance. The houses of the locals are mostly made of stone, embellished with roofs of clay tiles. They do not exceed a certain height, as they abide by the regulations of the National Archaeological Committee for the preservation of the village’s couleur locale and out of respect for the surrounding landscape. Kastraki is the ideal place to set off for a walk towards the Meteora rocks and the monasteries. One of two roads going to the monasteries passes through the village. The old habitation of Kastraki village, also called Mesochori (meaning the village in the middle) was the old main square of Kastraki. The “Museum of Geological Formations of Meteora” is located in the central square of Kastraki. It is housed in the old building of the Primary School of Kastraki, which is considered as a historical monument. Another beautiful sight is the rock Adrahti. It is a small but impressive rock because of its form and supporting position. Here you have a beautiful view of the Monasteries as well as of Kastraki and Kalambaka. In Kastraki, the visitor can find important churches, built during the turkish occupation: - The Assumption of the Virgin Mary, basilica in style, with icon paintings and iconostasis from the 16th century, located in the area called ”Adrahti”. – The church of St. Nicholas, icon painted in 1794, located in the South-East of the village. – The church of St. Athanasios, located near the central square, icon painted at the end of the 18th century. The village of Kastraki has been classified by the Greek State, as a traditional village under preservation and along with the area of Meteora has been acknowledged as a monument of world heritage by UNESCO. Kastraki is an ideal location to stay in the "shadow" of the rocks of Meteora. It’s very small and stunningly beautiful and as a UNESCO World heritage site, it is a must-visit! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ If you like what you see, subscribe and click the bell to enable notifications for more travel videos. https://www.youtube.com/verynicetravel I really appreciate your support! ❤️❤️❤️ ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ The content of this channel, including: videos and images must not be downloaded for the purpose of being re-uploaded to YouTube or another 3rd party website or apps.
