Viktor van Niekerk, 10-string guitar's video: Cede a Heart before the Sky 1998 Viktor van Niekerk neo-romantic minimalist piano music

Juvenilia (noun): Works produced by an author, composer, or artist while still young. This piece of juvenilia was composed around 1998, when I was about seventeen. Having recently revised the 1998 version for 10-string guitar, I wrote out this new version for piano on this day (9 February 2021). First performed on guitar, under a different title, "Cede a Heart before the Sky" now forms part of an ongoing series of preludes, interludes, and postludes (i.e., "before," "between," and "after" pieces), intended to facilitate changes of tuning among some of the vast number of transcriptions (many with unique scordature) that I've made for the Yepes guitar. The piece is not programmatic and it would be foolish to read extra-musical meaning into the title. "Cede a..." (i.e., C-E-D-E-A) refers to the main motif of the guitar version, transposed to a different tonality in the version for piano. Likewise, "Heart" and "Sky" are references to other composers' pieces that I've transcribed, which may be performed together with this "before" or "between" piece.
