Dr. Eugene Herrington earned his High School Diploma from the Lucy Craft Laney Senior High School in Augusta, Georgia followed by a Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology and Psychology from Suffolk University, Boston, Massachusetts, a Master’s Degree in Social Planning and Community Organization from Boston College Graduate School of Social Work, a doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology from California Institute of Integral Studies in San Francisco, California and a Master’s degree in Theology from the Holmes Institute in St. Louis, Missouri. He has devoted most of his professional career teaching counseling psychology at the master’s and doctoral levels. He has a private practice and has also worked in public and community mental health or behavioral health services. He has worked with underserved populations in the North East, South and West. He has a special interest in early adolescent development and other male developmental mental health issues. He has always strived to interface behavioral health concepts with spiritual interventions. His doctoral dissertation was titled “Adolescent Black Males in Psychotherapy.” Since graduating with a doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology, he has accumulated almost twenty years in private practice working with adolescent and young adult males, particular along the lines of ego development, family stability and mental health homeostasis issues. His parallel academic career as professor of psychology/psychiatry expands fifteen years or more teaching graduate students and psychiatric residents. He has taught in the department of counseling psychological studies at Clark Atlanta University, Addiction Studies Program at University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff, Arkansas and currently an assistant professor of clinical psychiatry in the department of psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at Morehouse School of medicine and Co Project Director – Historically Black Colleges and Universities Center for Excellence in Behavioral Health. Served as Project Co-Director, Assistant Professor of Clinical Psychiatry, Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Science/Cork Institute, Morehouse School of Medicine.
