VincentDanceTheatre's video: The Next Four Years 2018

@The Next Four Years (2018)
ARTISTIC DIRECTOR Charlotte Vincent talks about her motivation for the next four years; working with collaborators to share hidden stories and the drive to take the company's work to a wider audience. Charlotte is currently making In Loco Parentis for a stage tour and working on Art of Attachment as a film installation for Brighton Festival 2020. Both works have been made by a process of socially engaged practice resulting in collaboratively devised work that tells stories that demand to be heard. Founded in 1994 and led by Artistic Director Charlotte Vincent, Vincent Dance Theatre (VDT) produce powerful and engaging dance theatre work accompanied by extensive programmes of participation and professional development work. Charlotte Vincent is considered ‘one of the UK’s leading female choreographer/directors’ and ‘one of the most important feminist artists working in Britain today’ (The Observer). VDT is an international ensemble of multi-tasking collaborators who devise interdisciplinary performance to challenge conventional values in dance and gender politics. In 2015 the company celebrated 21 years of making and touring new productions with a live and online collection of Vincent’s work. This included a tour of the reworked durational ‘superb performances’ (The Guardian) UNDERWORLD and LOOK AT ME NOW, MUMMY at Shoreditch Town Hall, Birmingham Dance Xchange, Warwick Arts Centre, Southbank Centre, Yorkshire Dance and Brighton Festival 2015. Charlotte Vincent’s distinctive voice is increasingly in demand as a mentor, facilitator, provocateur and catalyst for critical debate. Charlotte is one of five female mentors leading The BENCH mentoring programme, facilitates Professional Development work through VDT’s ChoreoLabs and via Dance Agencies in the UK and abroad and co-curates The Table with Claire MacDonald, a network of established female artists who come together for nourishing, political conversation and creative exchange. VDT places importance on gender equality, provides supportive work conditions for parents to return to work and collaborates across generations. The company is currently developing ways to distribute Vincent’s work both live and online, ‘touring’ in more parent-friendly and ecologically sustainable ways. VDT is a National Portfolio Organisation, funded by Arts Council England. VDT is Associate Company at Brighton Dome. VDT are working in partnership with PDSW as a Dream Artist.
