Violet Deliriums's video: Cyndi Lauper - True Colors guitar cover

@Cyndi Lauper - "True Colors" (guitar cover)
This is my cover of Cyndi Lauper's song "True Colors" (1986). Although there is strong GLBT imagery in this song ("rainbow") and Cyndi Lauper is a prominent activist and advocate in the GLBT community -- which I applaud her for -- I think this song can be about anyone who feels insecure or sad, which is all of us at one time or another. She is just letting us know that someone loves us and would love us unconditionally, and so you do not have to hide your feelings from the people that really love you. She is encouraging everyone to be themselves, and I think that this is a message of many other musicians that follow. For example, I see people comparing Lady Gaga to Madonna because she is kind of a sexy fashion model (which is part of many pop diva personas, as a feature of the genre, although Cyndi Lauper had a more alternative post-punk style) that leads us to wonder what crazy outfit will she wear next, but I think the message she sends is more along the lines of what Cyndi Lauper was saying in songs like this. I played it on my Takamine Electric-Acoustic Guitar (the EN10C model), which is the most expensive guitar I own. I added some digital chorus from a Boss CE-5 and a slight echo from a TC Electronic Flashback ("Lofi" delay patch) and ran it through the "Vintage" (clean) channel of my Fender Supersonic 22W amp. To record it, I played along with the mp3 with my computer speakers and amp huddled around a Samson CO1U microphone into my Mac's Photo Booth program, which reverses the image and I don't know how to fix it. You with the sad eyes, don't be discouraged. Oh I realize it's hard to take courage. In a world full of people, you can lose sight of it all, And the darkness inside you can make you feel so small. But I see your true colors shining through. I see your true colors and that's why I love you. So don't be afraid to let them show. Your true colors, true colors are beautiful, like a rainbow. Show me a smile then, don't be unhappy, Can't remember when I last saw you laughing. If this world makes you crazy and you've taken all you can bear, You call me up because you know I'll be there. And I'll see your true colors shining through. I see your true colors and that's why I love you. So don't be afraid to let them show. Your true colors, true colors are beautiful, like a rainbow.
