This is an excerpt from Dr. Khalid Muhammad's 1996 speech "The Bullet or the Bullet," a reference to Malcolm X's "The Bullet or the Ballot" speech. The subject of the speech is the US presidential election and its candidates, but he takes a brief detour and discusses hip hop artists, Tupac Shakur as his main example. He also mentions Rev. Calvin Butts, a critic of gangsta rap. I do not necessarily agree or disagree with Dr. Muhammad's comments, but find it an interesting point of view.
