GGG vs WIllie Monroe Jr full fight results highlights & Gennady Golovkin vs Willie Monroe Jr fight knockout & GGG vs WIllie Monroe Jr full fight results highlights & Gennady Golovkin vs Willie Monroe Jr fight knockout. This is not the actual video or event. boxing is dead, as some would have you believe, you certainly can't tell in the month of May. This Saturday marks the third straight weekend for one (or more) of boxing's major talents to step in to the ring in an exciting fight as the man known as GGG, Gennady Golovkin, faces off with challenger Willie Monroe, Jr. HBO World Championship Boxing Golovkin vs. Monroe airs live at 10:00 p.m. ET this Saturday, May 16. Bloody Elbow will have live fight coverage, including weigh-ins and a discussion post, right here. For fans who tuned in to watch Floyd Mayweather vs. Manny Pacquiao, and there were a lot of you, probably the most common feeling post fight is one of let down. This was the biggest fight in boxing? Fans everywhere were irate, though those who followed boxing more carefully always knew that such an outcome was possible. Those hardcore fans urged casual fans that no - not all big boxing showdowns in 2015 looked like this. And in fact, they had two upcoming fights to prove their point. Up first was last weekend's Canelo Alvarez vs. James Kirkland fight, the kind of stylistic match-up that seemed destined to produce fireworks. And that's exactly what happened - three rounds of brief, but brutal action. This weekend comes the second. Gennady Golovkin vs. Willie Monroe, Jr. is one of those fights casual fans need to check out. But unlike Canelo vs Kirkland, that's not because of the way these two men match up. Instead, it's all about one man and one man alone: the Kazakh fighter known to fans everywhere as Triple G. Gennady Gennadyevich Golovkin burst onto the US boxing scene in late 2012, bringing an undefeated record and a fearsome reputation as a terrifying KO artist stateside after wreaking havoc in Europe. Immediately, HBO knew they had something with Golovkin and have been pushing him hard in the past two years, featuring him in spotlight fights against a range of opponents. And Golovkin has delivered, time and time again, knocking out every man HBO has put in front of him. He's now 32-0 and has not seen the final bell in nearly 20 fights. He has scored wild highlight reel KOs over Daniel Geale, Curtis Stevens, Matthew Macklin, and on, and on, and on. The one thing he has not done is faced a truly top level opponent in a major fight. GGG has made it clear that he wants to fight anyone who will step up to him, but few of the big names have been willing to do so. Lineal Middleweight champion Sergio Martinez wisely avoided Golovkin at all costs, and now that Miguel Cotto has taken Martinez's crown, there is no talk whatsoever of Cotto vs. Golovkin, leaving the potential superstar Golovkin without the opponent he needs to break through. Last weekend, that changed, as Canelo Alvarez spoke positively of a possible Canelo vs. Golovkin fight. If it happens, it would be the big opportunity Golovkin is looking for, and arguably the biggest non-Mayweather/Pacquiao fight boxing could produce right now (though, to be fair, Canelo vs. Cotto would be major as well). That of course is the future though. Today, there's the matter of Willie Monroe, Jr., a 28 year old fighter coming in off a win over Brian Vera. Monroe is a pretty good fighter who has good skills. But he's not unique from the many other fighters who have been run through the Golovkin meat-grinder recently. So let's be honest here - he doesn't really have a shot. But don't just take my word for it, check out these odds: Bovada Odds: Golovkin -5000, Monroe +1400 Yep, that about sums it up. Expect another KO win for Golovkin and more talk of Golovkin vs. Canelo - a fight that we should all hope to see happen within the year. GOLOVKIN VS.
