@French National Anthem Song “La Marseillaise” Composed by Rouget de Lisle Music by Hector Berlioz
French National Anthem Song “La Marseillaise” Composed by Claude Joseph Rouget de Lisle, with Music Arrangement by Hector Berlioz. "La Marseillaise" is the national anthem of France, and was composed by Claude Joseph Rouget de Lisle in 1792 after declaration of war by France against Austria. In 1830 "La Marseillaise" was arranged for soprano, chorus and orchestra by Hector Berlioz. The song acquired its nickname after it was sung by volunteers marching to Paris from Marseille. In 1795 The French National Convention (Third government of the French Revolution) adopted "La Marseillaise" as the anthem of the Republic. The song is a classic example of a European March with a distinctive melody and powerful lyrics and has become a song of revolution. When performed in public such as sporting events usually only the 1st verse and first chorus are sung, with the 5th and 6th added occasionally. To see all the verses click on this link https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/La_Marseillaise The French flag in this video is described below – “The flag of France is a tricolour flag featuring three vertical bands coloured blue (hoist side), white, and red. It is known to English speakers as the French Tricolour or simply the Tricolour (French: Tricolore)… Blue and red are the traditional colours of Paris, used on the city's coat of arms. Blue is identified with Saint Martin,[citation needed] red with Saint Denis. At the storming of the Bastille in 1789, the Paris militia wore blue and red cockades on their hats. White had long featured prominently on French flags and is described as the "ancient French colour" by Lafayette. White was added to the "revolutionary" colours of the militia cockade to "nationalise" the design, thus creating the tricolour cockade.” Ref: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flag_of_France The image shows a view of Paris including the Eiffel Tower and a French Flag. ENGLISH LYRICS: Verse 1: Arise, children of the Fatherland, The day of glory has arrived! Against us tyranny's Bloody banner is raised, (repeat) Do you hear, in the countryside, The roar of those ferocious soldiers? They're coming right into your arms To cut the throats of your sons, your women! To arms, citizens, Form your battalions, Let's march, let's march! Let an impure blood Soak our fields! Verse 5: Frenchmen, as magnanimous warriors, Bear or hold back your blows! Spare those sorry victims, Who arm against us with regret. (repeat) But not these bloodthirsty despots, These accomplices of Bouillé, All these tigers who, mercilessly, Rip their mother's breast! To arms, citizens...   Verse 6: Sacred love of the Fatherland, Lead, support our avenging arms Liberty, cherished Liberty, Fight with thy defenders! (repeat) Under our flags, may victory Hurry to thy manly accents, May thy expiring enemies, See thy triumph and our glory! To arms, citizens...
