Raging Bull Movie Opening Introduction Music is the Cavalleria Rusticana Intermezzo composed by Pietro Mascagni. Cavalleria Rusticana (Italian for "rustic chivalry") is a one act opera composed by Pietro Mascagni in 1890 to an Italian libretto by Giovanni Targioni-Tozzetti and Guido Menasci, who adapted it from a play written by Giovanni Verga. The work is regarded as a classic Verismo (meaning "realism", from Italian vero, meaning "true") opera and it’s symphonic Intermezzo features in the opening of the movie Raging Bull and the ending of the movie Godfather Part III. Pietro Antonio Stefano Mascagni (7 December 1863 – 2 August 1945) was an Italian composer most famous for his masterpiece Cavalleria Rustican, although he also composed another fourteen operas, an operetta, several orchestral and vocal works, as well as songs and piano music. Unlike some of his contemporaries he enjoyed considerable success during his career as a composer and conductor, and toured Moscow, St. Petersburg, Montreal, New York City, Philadelphia, Boston and San Francisco. Mascagni died on 2 August 1945 in his apartment at the Grand Hotel Plaza, Rome. In 1951 his mortal remains were transferred from Rome to Livorno, Tuscany – the birthplace of Mascagni.
