In dulci jubilo ("In sweet rejoicing") is a traditional Christmas carol, through to have been written around 1328 by Heinrich Seuse, a German Dominican friar. It is also an integral part of the Christmas Nine Lessons and Carols repertoire, and became very popular when the English musician Mike Oldfield recorded an instrumental version in 1976 which reached No. 4 in the UK singles charts. Our delight and pleasure Lies in praesepio; Like sunshine is our treasure Matris in gremio; Alpha es et O! Alpha es et O! Verse 2 O Jesu, parvule, For thee I sing alway; Comfort my heart’s blindness, O puer optime, With all thy loving kindness, O princeps gloriae; Trahe me post te! Trahe me post te! Verse 3 O patris caritas! O nati lenitas! Deeply were we stained Per nostra criminal; But thou for us hast gained Coelorum gaudia: Oh, that we were there! Oh, that we were there! Verse 4 Ubi sunt gaudia in any place but there? There are angels singing Nova cantica And there the bells are ringing In Regis curia. Oh, that we were there! Oh, that we were there!
