Hurricane Delta strengthened early Tuesday morning to become a Category 2 storm in the northwestern Caribbean Sea. Just 24 hours ago on Monday morning, it was a tropical depression. Hurricane Delta As of 4 a.m. Tuesday, Hurricane Delta strengthened to become a Category 2 storm in the northwestern Caribbean Sea with maximum sustained winds of 100 mph. Hurricane Hunters found pressure down to 968 mb. The National Hurricane Center says Delta will continue this motion for the next day or so before moving into the Gulf of Mexico early Wednesday, possibly as a Category 4 storm. Impact details are unclear at this time as landfall is still uncertain. On its current path, rainfall totals of 2-5" across parts of southeast Louisiana and south Mississippi, along with tropical storm force winds possible by late Thursday and hurricane force by Friday.
