It’s Sunday evening and I make a visit to Terminal 21 Shopping Mall in Bangkok. It’s beside the hotel I am staying at, Red Planet Asoke hotel. The mall is on Sukhumvit 21, and can be reached by both the BTS Skytrain (Asok Station) and the MRT Subway (Sukhumvit Station). There’s a skybridge connecting to the mall. It’s also very close to Soi Cowboy! It’s a relatively new mall. It opened in 2011. It’s open from 10am to 10pm, and there’s a Cineplex on the upper level. There are 9 floors and 600 shops. The Terminal 21 Food Court is called Pier 21 and is well known for cheap and delicious food with a huge variety. It’s on the 5th level. It must be the best Food Court in Bangkok, or definitely one of the best. The menus are in Thai, English and Chinese. To eat at the Pier 21, you need to get a card at one of the kiosks beside the food court and load it with credit. If you have money remaining on the card, it can be refunded to you. You can look around the food court and see the prices and then load the card with the amount you need. The card only is accepted in the Pier 21 Food Court. There are several other restaurants on the same level and throughout the mall, but they won’t accept the Food Court card. Finding a seat at Pier 21 can be difficult during peak hours. Each floor of Terminal 21 has its own theme. The design concept is to bring several cities from all around the world, under one roof. It’s also like an airport with signs showing you have arrived in a different city, or you are departing from one to the other. Some of the cities/themes are London, Rome, Istanbul, Tokyo, Paris and San Francisco. All the usual designer brands can be found here as well as 44 outlets with local Thai designed products. I don’t really like to haggle, but I hear that some shops accept bargaining, some don’t. It’s not the cheapest mall in Bangkok for shopping, but it’s worth a look.
