The Hunza (ہنزہ‎) is a mountainous valley in the Gilgit–Baltistan region of Pakistan. The is situated in the extreme northern part of Pakistan where several high peaks rise above 6,000 meters (20,000 ft.) in the Hunza valley. A watch tower is located in heart of Ganish Village, Baltit Fort stands on top of Karimabad whereas Baltit Fort lies somewhat lower down the valley on another outcrop. The valley is popularly believed to be the inspiration for the mythical valley of -La in 's 1933 novel Lost Horizon. The temperature in May reaches a maximum of 26 °C and a minimum of 10 °C; the October maximum is 23 °C and the minimum 2 °C. Hunza's tourist season is generally from May to October, because in winter the Karakoram Highway is often blocked by the snow. Fairy Meadows, named by German climbers ″fairy tale meadows″ and locally known as Joot, is a grassland near one of the base camp sites of the , located in Diamer District, -Baltistan, Pakistan. At an altitude of about 3,300 meters above the sea level and in 1995, the Government of Pakistan declared a National Park. The six-month tourist season at Fairy Meadows starts in April and continues until the end of September. Tourists lodge at the camping site spread over two acres, known as "Raikot Serai". The site of Fairy Meadows, though partially developed, generates about PKR 17million revenue from , mainly by providing food, transportation and accommodation services. Among mammals, a few brown bears are found in the region, some musk deer regarded as an endangered species are also present.
