@YouTube TV Review - Is this streaming service any good?
WaysToWatch.com review of YouTube TV. This is Google’s first attempt at streaming live broadcast television. YouTube Live TV cost $35 a month, but if you sign up through your iOS device it cost $39.99/month. So, sign up through your laptop to save yourself $5 a month. Devices needed for YouTube TV: How does YouTube TV work? YouTube TV supports Android, iOS devices and computers that have the Chrome browser. If you want it on your television, you’ll need to have either a Chromecast or an Apple TV, but only iOS devices will send YouTube TV to your Apple TV. YouTube TV doesn’t currently offer an app on streaming devices like the Roku or Amazon Fire. YouTube TV sharing and location: At the time of this review YouTube Live TV is offered in 5 US markets: Chicago, Los Angeles, New York, Philadelphia and the San Francisco Bay Area. I live in the Bay Area and while i was on a trip to L.A. it worked really well. It works any where in the states, but you need to first sign up in an area where the service is offered. You can share your account with up to 6 family members. Each family member gets their own separate DVR library. YouTube TV Image Quality: Image quality on YouTube TV is decent. Depending on what you are watching, live shows tend to max out at 720p, pre -recorded shows at 1080p and 4K is not an option. YouTube TV User Interface: The User Interface is fairly easy to navigate. It starts with three categories: Library, Home and Live. The library is your DVR. In the library you’ll find all of your recorded shows and movies. There is no limit to the number of shows can record and recorded shows are saved for 9 months. Home provides suggestions based on your google searches. And Live, is well live tv. I like that in the home and live sections live previews are displayed. To record a show click the plus sign. This works for live TV (show clicking while watching a show or in the live tv menu) and suggested shows. I found the search feature to be really useful and since I am using a device with a touch or physical keyboard, finding shows I want to watch or record is really easy. You can search by title, actor, director or even producer. As well as sports leagues or sports teams. YouTube TV Included Channels: When compared to most cable tv packages, YouTube TV has a limited number of channels. For $35 you get all of your local channels from the major networks: ABC, CBS, The CW, FOX, and NBC. Overall you get nearly 50 channels, with more coming in the future. Currently, CNN, Comedy Central, Cartoon Network or TNT are not included. And without TNT I missed a few NBA playoff games. You can add-on Showtime and Fox Soccer Plus for an additional charge. Minus missing the Eastern Conference finals I am happy with the channels that are currently offered with their plan. BROADCAST ABC CBS The CW FOX NBC SPORTS Big Ten Network CBS Sports Network Comcast RSN ESPN ESPN2 ESPNews ESPNU Fox RSN FS1 FS2 Golf Channel NBCSN SEC Network ENTERTAINMENT & LIFESTYLE AMC BBC America Bravo Chiller E! Esquire Freeform FX FXM FXX IFC Nat Geo Nat Geo Wild Oxygen Sundance SyFy Universal HD USAWE tv YouTube Red Originals NEWS BBC World News CNBC Fox Business Fox News MSNBC KIDS Disney Channel Disney Jr Disney XD Sprout SPANISH LANGUAGE Telemundo Universo YouTube TV On-Demand: Like cable tv, YouTube TV has on-demand movies. They are listed in the Home section under “Movies For You.” Or you can click on a network and see which on-demand movies are offered by that specific network. Wrap Up At $35 a month, YouTube TV is priced in the middle of the pack. There is a lot to like about this streaming service. I like that when I am traveling I can watch shows from anywhere, the search function works really well and the it includes nearly every channel I want. They are offering the first month free, it is definitely worth checking out. If this video was helpful be sure to click the like button below and subscribe.
