Energy coach and fitness enthusiast Urmi Kothari talks about her passion for fitness and wellness, and what led her to start Kinetic Living. HDFC Life presents 'Hustle Is Real' - a chat show with Nikhil Taneja, CEO and Co-founder, Yuvaa, where six ace up and coming entrepreneurs talk about the hustle it takes to build a business. Last episode of drops this Saturday Episode summary: 0:44 - The first time I (Nikhil) came to know of you was through Rohan’s stories 1:11 - There’s no word like fitness in my (Urmi’s) brand, because I believe in Kinetic ‘Living’ and everyone finds their own version 1:28 - Sometimes, just before I (Rohan Joshi) travel, she will send me a few workout links that’ll help me do stretches with my trolley bag 1:44 - I would never dream of working out on holidays, but now I carry my running shoes to every holiday How did you go from being a professional dancer to being an entrepreneur of fitness and wellness? 2:47 - It was always about dance and movement for me. It was like my ‘me-time’ 3:00 - I was doing film marketing for 6 months; I didn’t really enjoy it 3:09 - When my dance guru offered me an internship, I was told that this is very different from my city life. I decided to try it and it taught me discipline 3:30 - The change in lifestyle really helped me heal physically and mentally and that’s when I knew I won’t go back to a desk job What made you take the call of starting this start-up? 4:07 - My friends asked me to teach and I decided to teach movement and fitness instead of dance, because that’s not my area of expertise 4:26 - My first two clients were my friends. Through word of mouth it increased to 6 clients Did you have an idea of financial planning? 4:43 - I had enough money saved up to set up a studio but I didn’t do any financial planning 5:23 - It worked for me to go without financial planning because I had done my marketing and sales before that. For someone new, that might not work Do you see some similarities between the things you teach as a trainer and in running a company? 5:48 - The way I push clients is not the same for everyone. In life also, you cannot be always direct with everyone which means having a more compassionate way of saying things 6:25 - You have to learn to draw the line because if you don’t survive, how will your brand survive? How do you scale up something in which you have to give individual attention to every client? 6:57 - Investing in your team is one way, ensuring that your talents are being passed on and they’re being empowered 7:10 - Trusting them that they’re not going to leave you as soon as they learn the tricks of the trade 7:21 - We have trainer sessions every week where I train the coaches; I also shadow their sessions at times and give them feedback later 7:36 - As I’m growing in other areas of my life, I feel like I could’ve scaled Kinetic Living way faster and done it more smartly 7:49 - I always thought of it as ‘my’ baby, but you have to learn to take a step back, because that’s a part of scaling up What advice would you give to someone who wants to become an entrepreneur in the same field? 8:19 - Find your own voice, that’s very important because everyone can learn exercises off YouTube, but what are you offering that’s different? 8:41 - If you can find your voice and justify it, then people will come to you. It’s all about genuinely caring about your clients 9:14 - Rapid Fire __________________________________________________________________________________________ Join us on all social media platforms: YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/weareyuvaa Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/weareyuvaa/ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/weareyuvaa/ Twitter: https://twitter.com/weareyuvaa About Yuvaa: Founded by filmmakers Nikhil Taneja, Amritpal Bindra and Anand Tiwari, Yuvaa is a youth media organization that uses the power of entertainment to tell purpose-driven stories that start meaningful conversations.
