Hasta Shilpa Heritage Village is literally a museum of buildings. It showcases traditional buildings from all over the state of Karnataka. Buildings range from small temples to palaces. It was started by late Vijaynath Shenoy, an employee of Syndicate Bank, Udupi. Mr Shenoy travelled around Karnataka and bought traditional buildings that were out of use. His team would then dismantle the buildings, mark the blocks and reassemble them at the museum using the marked blocks. Inside the musuem, a tour guide shows you around the buildings and narrates stories and features. In each building, the experience is enhanced by music and fragrance. Walking into Hasta Shilpa is like travelling to our past and looking into the lives of our ancestors. At Hasta Shilpa, they believe that museums are not to be enclosed in glass cases but experienced by people. The guides are really passionate about the place and it is difficult not to catch their love and enthusiasm. The museum has three phases, but only one of them is open to public right now. We are eager to see the other phases too. The museum tickets are reasonably priced for a guided tour. There is no separate charge for photography and no differential pricing for non-Indians.
