In this video, you will learn about Jammu city's history, its geographical features and its culture. You will also see the best places to visit in the city. Here is an intro to the video. History: Jammu is the capital of the Dogra dynasty. Raja Gulab Singh established the dynasty after defeating the Sikhs of Punjab and annexed a tiny northern part of the state to form Jammu. The last king Hari Singh stepped down from monarchy to join the republic of India. Geography: The city flourishes of the both sides of Tawi river. The northern bank is the heritage city while the southern one is the new city and cantonment. People: Jammuvites are mostly Hindus. The next sizeable population are the Sikhs, followed by Muslims. The people speak Hindi, Punjabi and Urdu. Places to see Hari Market: is the bustling downtown market, where you can buy dry fruits and nuts for a price lower than the rest of India. Raghunath temple: is a temple dedicated to Lord Rama. But it has a total 300 idols. Amar Mahal: is the newer palace complex used by the Dogras and later handed over to the government as heritage. Mubarak Mandi: is the older, larger and more opulent complex, but undergoing restoration from ruins today. Bahu fort and Bagh-e-Bahu: are both to the south of the river. Bahu fort overlooks the heritage side of the city. Bagh-e-Bahu is a Mughal style terraced garden just outside Bahu fort. Tawi riverside: the many walking paths and ghats are perfect for watching the sun rise and set.
