@4 Essential Poses for Paddlers
https://clients.mindbodyonline.com/Pages/OnlineStore.aspx?studioid=222355&partnerID=0&catid= Anna Levesque’s new book ‘Yoga for Paddling’ is a visual, instructional guide designed to walk readers through 30 -35 yoga poses that are effective in stretching the muscles that paddlers use most, and strengthening the muscles that they use least. The book is incredibly detailed covering everything from anatomy to specific movements. We asked Anna what her most essential poses for the paddler would be and she came back with the list below. Enjoy this video covering the essential poses for the paddler and be sure to check out ‘Yoga for Paddling’ for more in-depth details. 1. Hand To Big Toe Pose. In this pose Anna uses a strap while laying on her back so that the spine aligns itself properly. This gives you a good hamstring stretch as well as the opportunity to get a nice twist. 2. Windshield Wiper Pose. A great pose for the iliopsoas muscle which can get very tight from sitting at a desk or in a kayak. This can pull on our pelvis causing our lower back the become out of alignment resulting in discomfort. This is a great one for anyone with lower back problems. 3. Shoulder Blade Pushups. Paddling can cause the muscles of the chest and shoulder to tighten more than the muscles in the upper back. This pose strengthens the upper back and helps bring it back into proper alignment. 4. Spider Cobra. This pose stretches the chest while strengthening the upper back. Anna reminds us to keep our forehead on the floor to get a nice lengthening of the neck.
