As with all engineering, there are always challenges during development. The tree is over 12 feet tall which means the engineers had to make it structurally sound in order to survive the harshest elements; wind, rain, snow and even lightning all had to be taken into consideration. All the cordless vacuum cleaner wands were individually cut to size and then reassembled to match the original wands. It took a team of six engineers 5 hours to achieve this. The collars were also specifically designed to fit the wands perfectly, whilst sitting over the central pole. The complex geometry and potential heavy loads meant they had to be Rapid prototyped from Glass filled Nylon.
