The bike shed effect refers to the people's tendency to give unbalanced attention to trivial issues. This can clearly have an impact on otherwise effective meetings. Based on Parkinson's law of triviality this video looks at a fictitious finance planning committee. The committee avoid the big issues and then spend a lot of time discussing the more trivial ones. Although this isn’t scientific, many people will have experienced meetings where a lot of the meeting time was spent on discussing something small, or where what’s being discussed was only relevant to a few people in the meeting.
