Using the laser welder to fix bullet holes - and in this case, lightning scars - is generally my least favorite part of a level. I didn't know what I was doing the first time I played, so the welder kept overheating. This generates flames that spread soot on the ground that you need to mop up.. and more damage to the walls that needs to be fixed with more welding. The game is the answer to the question of who has to clean up in the aftermath of the horrible disasters often portrayed in science fiction media. Players put on the boots, gloves, and overalls of a lowly janitor whose job is to incinerate any remains, mop up the blood, and weld shut the bullet holes. Every time the legions of Hell decide to invade one of our military bases, or some experimental creature gets loose, some poor son-of-a-bitch has to clean up the mess that gets left behind. Police up the bodies, scrub out the fluids, sweep away all the bullet casings. They want these places clean enough to eat off of - if you've still got an appetite after your shift. And if you don't mess up too badly, you'll have another unspeakable mess to deal with next week.
