In a final scene that many of us expected, we see dead soldiers marching, led by White Walkers on creepy horses, and our icky uptown dragon, the newly blue-eyed Viserion, flaps in and breathes blue flame on the Wall, like some kind of supercharged York Peppermint Pattie commercial. “Run!” Tormund says. Tormund, my darling, godspeed. (“I hope Tormund survived the Sterno-can fire!” a friend wrote.) The show’s composer, Ramin Djawadi, tries his hand at something vaguely Wagnerian. The Nights King is riding Viserion, which feels like an affront; so does the uncomfortable sensation of watching this scene.
