Winds of Change's video: Edited- DIY Bucket Poultry Waterer Gravity Controlled NOT the turn over kind

@Edited- DIY Bucket Poultry Waterer Gravity Controlled NOT the turn over kind
Please see edit below about the problems with this waterer before you DIY So this is a gravity waterer for any kind of pet really, out of a 5 gallon bucket but without the having to manhandle it to turn it over to have it work. I'm too old to be fighting with manhandling buckets full of water to turn them over into a pan...no thank you. This was edited to change the lid choice at the end. When turkeys can jump on the top and when kicking off to leave, can knock the lid off here and there causing the bucket to empty, a change is definitely in order- that should never be an accident that happens. Buckets and EZ Peel lids courtesy of ULINE (www.uline.com), Spout lids courtesy of BERLIN PACKAGING (www.berlinpackaging.com). Sealing O Rings for EZ Peel lids procured from freckleface.com (expensive though for O-rings). Other supplies procured on AMAZON and EBAY. EDIT: Don't do this. The problems I encountered were the following- 1) The roosters like to sit up on top and poop in the pan of water, and the ducks like to play in the water and get all manner of crap in there. 2) when the suction works to refill the pan it pulls in that assorted crap and gets the inside of the bucket FILTHY and algae grows in there...it is a mess. 3) If you put the pound on lids on it, they are alot of work to pry off with a tool, so you don't want to clean the inside of the bucket cause it is so much work. I've found a better solution (using these buckets). I got these cup waterers from Amazon. https://www.amazon.com/RentACoop-Automatic-Chicken-Waterer-Poultry/dp/B07D6VFCWM/ref=sr_1_2?dchild=1&keywords=cup+waterer&qid=1600202180&sr=8-2 They fit the holes that I had drilled with the silicon washers they give you with the cups. If I had it to do over though, I'd make the holes the size that they tell you to for these cup waterers. You could still use it like here if you chose, just would be a slightly smaller hole. Put them on a brick or wood or something to allow the cups to hang over, otherwise you have to put the cups further up and there's more water that can't get out. The cups are pretty nifty. Water does not end up going back into the bucket, so any crap stays in the cup and I flush it out with the hose every day or two depending on how dirty. The cup may develop algae but I go about once a week during the warm weather (when algae grows) with a kitchen sponge scrubby, support the cup with one hand while I use the scrubby on the inside of the cup, then flush with the hose. The inside of the bucket stays pretty well pristine unless stuff drops into it from above. You can put one of those peel off bucket lids on it loosely to keep goobers out and it works famously. Just be warned that the birds still like to roost on it and can seal the lid onto the bucket with their weight on the lid, if that happens the water won't flow, so put something on the rim to prevent that from happening or you'll have to drill a tiny hole somewhere on the lid to let air in. These binder clips are coming today for me for that purpose because if I drill a hole they might seal it by pooping on it - https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07J5P6C2N/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 I'll clip one on the edge of a bucket, fold the "pincher" parts down flat, and I can press on the lid to seat the lid on the opposite side and however much around I want, but no amount of weight will make the lid seal completely because of the clip in the way in that spot. And that fixes that. I like this system MUCH better. It is easier to refill, keep clean-ish and healthful for the birds. The only problem that I have had with the cups is that occasionally, especially if bumped hard or hit while a bird comes down off the top that one or both of the little "posts" that hold the cup to the rest of the assembly can break or snap. I have had it happen twice. I made a small hole in the exact spot where the post broke off with a small nail to give a starter hole, then I used small screws for computer components to screw in, making a new post essentially and that has worked like a charm and they went back out there and into service. Don't get any other kind of cup. They are not all the same. The ones with the levers are sometimes problems because the birds don't learn how to make them work. These cups though- GREAT. They work on the weight of the water. When not enough water is in them they tilt up, and that opens the valve to let water in, when they get enough water they weigh enough to settle back down which closes off the valve to the water. All a bird has to do is drink like they normally would...nothing special needed.
