@Rally Bohemia 2020 - Best of
On the first leg of the 47th Rally Bohemia 2020 the competition at the front was an insanely close three-way-fight between multiple Czech champions Jan Kopecký and Václav Pech and the young Finn Jari Huttunen. Václav Pech and Petr Uhel set the quickest time on the opening street stage in the older Ford Focus WRC, but from stage two Jari Huttunen and Mikko Lukka (Hyundai i20 R5) took the lead. They stayed there for the whole day, but their advantage was always only a couple of seconds. After the eleven stages of day one, the Finnish team led the rally by just six tenth ahead of Jan Kopecký and Jan Hloušek in the Škoda Fabia Rally2 evo, Pech and Uhel were just another 1.5 seconds down. On Sunday morning, Pech upped his pace by a gear or two and went from third to first at an instant. With a blistering time on the thirs stage of the day, the longest in the event, he secured his lead over Kopecký. Jari Huttunen meanwhile didn't only change his setup in the wrong direction, he also had two offs in the first loop and was out of the fight for the win. After 18 stages Václav Pech and Petr Uhel finally secured the win of Rally Bohemia 2020! It was only the third time since the end of 2014 that the pair managed an outright win in the Czech championship and only the second win of the Bohemia after 2006. Honza Kopecký and Honza Hloušek had to settle for second, but full of admiration for the performance of the winners in the old WRC. Jari Huttunen and Mikko Lukka secured third place from the hard fighting Filip Mareš and Radovan Bucha. Jan Černý and Petr Černohorský moved up to fifth place after the crash of young gun Petr Semerád and codriver Jiří Hovorka in stage 16. Simon Wagner and Gerald Winter followed closely behing in place six. The honour of fastest 2WD fell to the Swedes Dennis Rådström and Johan Johansson in their in their Ford Fiesta R2T19, beating Jan Dohnal and Ivo Vybíral in the classic Renault Clio S1600 by more than a minute. Dominik Brož and Petr Těšínský meanwhile won the Peugeot Rally Cup CZ with constantly fast times. After a long corona-related break, the Czech rally season will proceed in just two weeks with the Rally Příbram 2020, first round of the Czech Sprint Rally Championship (RSS). The main championship (MČR) will continue just another two weeks later alongside the RSS at the Valašská Rally 2020.
