Every winter, hundreds of beavers are trapped and drowned in Vermont, because of their dam building activities threatening roads. The Vermont Agency of Transportation (VTrans) hires trappers that use cruel body-gripping traps that crush their victims and foot-hold traps that drown beavers and other wildlife. On January 27, 2023 Vermont Wolf Patrol investigated reports of an exposed foot-hold trap just off of the D&H Rail Trail on the Indian River in southern Vermont.
