Ok friends, feel free to share this video of Carrie Yvette Fischer testifying before a Texas House of Representatives Committee today in support of HB 16, the Texas Infant Born Alive Protection Act. My name is Carrie Yvette Fischer, and I wish to thank Representative Jeff Leach for extending the great and humbling honor of speaking to you today to voice my support for HB 16, and to share my experiences as an abortion survivor. Though I do not have any medical records to prove my story, when I sat my mom down at thirteen years old, and shared with her my previous eight years of recurring and painfully real nightmares of a baby fighting for its life in its mother’s womb, she broke down in heart felt tears and confessed the following. In late 1968, my mother Shirley learned that she was pregnant. When she told her boyfriend, he abandoned her and her two young children from a previous marriage. Alone, pregnant, and scared, not knowing how she could possibly care for a third child, mom began a search for someone in her home state of Texas who would be willing to perform an abortion. She found someone in Luling Texas willing to take my innocent life, and with money borrowed from another family member, in December of 1968 when I was about 3 months gestation, she drove herself to Luling to have the termination procedure done. About a month later, realizing she was still pregnant, and given that the staff at the abortion clinic had been cold and heartless towards her, as well as not wanting to go through the trauma of that type of procedure again, she opted to trust God that somehow, He would make a way for her to care for her growing family. In June of 1969, mom’s water broke, but according to her Doctor, the trauma from the abortion attempt left her cervix unable to open normally. Though we don’t know why, he waited 36 hours to take me via C section on June 10. He later attributed the various disabilities I was born with, to the left side of my face laying on mom’s unprotected pelvic bone for those 36 hours prior to the C section. How did I survive? Well, I have always felt like I had a twin brother or sister out there somewhere but could not explain why I felt that way until after I learned about the circumstances that surround that very early, and most vulnerable part of my life. After surviving that abortion, as well as an attempted suicide when I was 30, I knew God had a plan and purpose for my life, and that purpose, includes being here today before you, the lawmakers of our great State of Texas, to testify in support of the Texas Born Alive Protection Act! In closing, please consider these words written centuries ago by a very wise King to his young son. “Open your mouth for the speechless, in the cause of ALL who are appointed to die. Open your mouth, judge righteously, and plead the cause of the poor and needy”.
