During our north Karnataka visit, we traveled to temple town of Pattadakal which is around 22 km away from Badami. Pattadakal is situated in Bagalkot district of Karnataka on the banks of Malaprabha River and also known as Pattada-Kisuvolal which means "red soil valley for coronation". The Chalukyas of Badami built this large complex of nine temples for royal commemoration and coronation. It was accorded World Heritage Status by UNESCO in 1987.
