Aihole is 35 kilometres away from Badami and about 13 kilometres from Pattadakal. Badami and Bagalkot are the nearest train stations. Aihole has bus service and road connectivity from Bengaluru and other parts of Karnataka. A tranquil village located on the banks of the Malaprabha river, it was the cultural capital during the period of Western Chalukya dynasty of Badami. Aihole is known as the cradle of South Indian Hindu-Dravidian temple architecture. Aihole, along with nearby Badami (Vatapi), emerged by the 6th century as the cradle of experimentation with temple architecture, stone artwork, and construction techniques.
