Let’s get into it! 2 Gavin David Free was born on May 23rd, 1988 in Thame, Oxfordshire, United Kingdom. 3 In 2007, Gavin Free joined Green Door Films, the first production house in Europe to use high-speed cameras for slow motion. 4 He worked as a Data Technician and Camera Operator. 5 He worked on adverts, music videos, and on big Hollywood productions like Hot Fuzz. 6 In 2008, the popular digital media company Rooster Teeth contacted him to direct the machinima series Red vs. Blue. 7 After working on Red vs. Blue, he decided to move to Austin, Texas and work full-time for Rooster Teeth. 8 He then created The Slow Mo Guys along with friend Daniel Gruchy in order to get a work visa. 9 Gavin and Daniel met while working for a supermarket in Oxfordshire called “Waitrose”. 10 Daniel is also an explosives expert in the British Army and has one more year to serve before he plans to join his friend in Texas. 11 On January 13, 2017, Daniel announced that he had completed his military service in the British Army. 12 The name The Slow Mo Guys came from Richard Hammond from Top Gear. 13 Richard often referred to Daniel as the “slow mo guy”, because he would work on the high-speed camera while shooting the formula 1 cars. 14 They usually record multiple episodes at once due to their limited time for when they can meet due to living on separate continents. 15 The duo sold a painting on ebay for $83,200 after it being featured on one of their videos smashing spray cans onto a canvas. 16 They didn’t sell it at such a high price for any reason but for a good cause, the proceeds for the painting went to the Extra Life gaming charity! 17 They have been featured on The Tonight Show in September of 2012. Their video of them crushing watermelons was featured. 18 Daniel Grutchy Daniel was born on July 27, 1988 in Aylesbury Vale, Buckinghamshire, England. 19 He was potty trained in 1990, at the ago of two, and he said his very first swear word in 1994 at the age of six. 20 He was raised n the town of Thame, Oxfordshire, England where he had also attended Lord William's School, where he would meet Gavin. 21 Unfortunately, the duo never really became close at the time until they would work at the same supermarket together. 22 Dan became a Lance Corporal in the British Army after graduating secondary school while helping Gavin film slow motion videos and content for their YouTube channel, releasing their first video on October 15, 2010. 23 He currently resides in England and has recently completed his last year of military service.
