World History Encyclopedia's video: Aphrodite the Goddess of Love and Beauty in Greek Mythology

@Aphrodite the Goddess of Love and Beauty in Greek Mythology
Aphrodite is easily among the most well-known Greek deities, especially due to her Roman counterpart Venus. Aphrodite is the goddess of love, beauty, desire and all aspects of sexuality but had a much wider significance in ancient Greece than simply as a goddess of love. Aphrodite has a long history, with her birth close to Cyprus and her popular worship on the island of Paphos, it is believed that she may have origins as a fertility goddess and evolved from the earlier Phoenician goddess Astarte, or the Near Eastern goddess Inanna/Ishtar, though she is also associated with the Hurrian-Hittite goddess Sauska. She also may have derived from a local Cypriot deity, and her close connection to the island is shown in a common name used for her in ancient literature, Cypris which means ‘of Cyprus.’ In addition to her dominion over love, beauty, and sexuality, Aphrodite was worshipped as a protectress of sea voyages, most likely due to her birth from the sea, and she had numerous epithets hinting to this aspect of the deity including Pontia meaning of the deep sea, and Euploia meaning of the fair voyage. Aphrodite, although married to the god of fire and metallurgy, Hephaestus, had an affair and numerous offspring with the god of war, Ares. — SUPPORT US VIA OUR PATREON— https://www.patreon.com/join/whencyclopedia — BUY OUR MERCH — https://www.worldhistory.store/ — CHAPTERS — 0:00 Introduction 1:04 Who is the Goddess Aphrodite? 2:59 Myths of Aphrodite 6:45 The Cult of Aphrodite 8:37 Outro — WANT TO KNOW MORE? — Aphrodite https://www.worldhistory.org/Aphrodite/ Disarming Aphrodite: Rediscovering the Venus de Milo https://www.worldhistory.org/article/1377/disarming-aphrodite-rediscovering-the-venus-de-mil/ Adonis https://www.worldhistory.org/Adonis/ Eros https://www.worldhistory.org/Eros/ Venus https://www.worldhistory.org/venus/ — WATCH NEXT — Helen of Troy, the Catalyst for the Trojan War https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uE3J-k3BD_E Hades, Tartarus and the Underworld in Greek Mythology https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=maMe1JADqwI Medusa, the Snake Haired Gorgon in Greek Mythology https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sTfoViYZJzg The Greek Goddess Hera, Queen of the Olympian Gods https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hMTJ14MiGxs — ATTRIBUTIONS — You can find all attribution and credits for images, animations, graphics and music here - https://worldhistory.typehut.com/aphrodite-the-goddess-of-love-and-beauty-in-greek-mythology-images-and-attributions-11255 The music used in this recording is the intellectual copyright of Michael Levy, a prolific composer for the recreated lyres of antiquity, and used with the creator's permission.
