World History Encyclopedia's video: Pompey the Great - Statesman and General of the Roman Republic

@Pompey the Great - Statesman and General of the Roman Republic
Did you know that Pompey the Great defeated the Cilician Pirates in under a year? This video is all about the fascinating Roman general and statesman Pompey the Great. Gnaeus Pompeius Magnus – better known as Pompey the Great – lived between 106 and 48 BCE and was one of the greatest generals and statesmen of the late Roman Republic. His accomplishments are sometimes overshadowed by his younger contemporary Julius Caesar but, in his time, Pompey was far more popular – at least initially – and much more powerful. His assassination in Egypt at the end of his civil war with Caesar was a bad end to an illustrious life and has sometimes encouraged the view that Pompey was a “famous loser” but this interpretation fails to take into account his many impressive achievements and brilliant military strategies. — SUPPORT US VIA OUR PATREON— https://www.patreon.com/join/whencyclopedia — BUY OUR MERCH — https://www.worldhistory.store/ — CHAPTERS — 0:00 Introduction 0:42 Who is Pompey the Great? 1:41 Early Life and Career 3:34 Consulship & Cilician Pirates 5:21 The First Triumvirate 7:56 Civil War & Pompey's Death 9:38 Outro — WANT TO KNOW MORE? — Pompey https://www.worldhistory.org/pompey/ The Battle of Pharsalus https://www.worldhistory.org/article/697/the-battle-of-pharsalus/ Julius Caesar https://www.worldhistory.org/Julius_Caesar/ Ancient Rome https://www.worldhistory.org/Rome/ — WATCH NEXT — Ancient Rome Playlist https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLRIPanKDxKpt23JtCUEa7Cw787eohdqIP The Rise and Fall of the Roman Empire https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FtB0wxDKmbc&list=PLRIPanKDxKpt23JtCUEa7Cw787eohdqIP&index=7&t Pax Romana or the Roman Peace Explained https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IyruglATn8o&list=PLRIPanKDxKpt23JtCUEa7Cw787eohdqIP&index History of Dogs in Ancient Roman Society and Mythology https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lu2QpYetLjc&t Clothing and Fashion in Ancient Rome https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i5myVyiGicg — ATTRIBUTIONS — You can find all attribution and credits for images, animations, graphics and music here - https://worldhistory.typehut.com/pompey-the-great-images-and-attributions-17809 The music used in this recording is the intellectual copyright of Michael Levy, a prolific composer for the recreated lyres of antiquity, and used with the creator's permission.
