World Monuments Fund's video: Mam Rashan Shrine

The 200-year-old Mam Rashan Shrine is considered one of the oldest shrines in Sinjar, Iraq. It is a symbol of the Yazidi religion in the region and where their people get together to celebrate their customs and traditions. The shrine was destroyed when ISIS attacked in 2014, and since then no religious ritual had been performed at the site until the Eyzidi Organization for Documentation rebuilt the shrine in partnership with World Monuments Fund (WMF). Work started in late summer 2020, following Mam Rashan's recognition on the Watch, with the assessment and documentation of the site. In October 2020, a blessing ceremony to celebrate the beginning of the work was held with the presence of the highest religious authorities in Sinjar and Lalesh. The reconstruction was complete in September 2022, and it was marked by a two-day religious celebration. This reconstruction was and will remain an opportunity to spread best practices in preservation and construction techniques within the Yazidi community and experts.
