You had the unique chance to get to know him better on the basis of his literary taste. We asked him to speak to you about his favourite fiction or non fiction - no doubt a difficult task for a writer, essayist and critic who during three decades reviewed many books for among others The New York Review of Books. Buruma chose An Area of Darkness (1984) by V.S. Naipaul; Berlin Alexanderplatz (1929) by Alfred Döblin and Naomi (1924) by Tanizaki Junichiro. In a conversation with writer and programmer Chris Keulemans, he talked about his literary choices. The audience was welcome to join in with questions. U kreeg een unieke kans om deze auteur met Nederlandse achtergrond aan de hand van zijn literaire smaak wat beter te leren kennen. We vroegen hem om u over zijn favoriete fictie of non-fictie te vertellen. Dit was ongetwijfeld een lastige opgave voor een schrijver, essayist en criticus die al drie decennia voor onder meer de prestigieuze New York Review of Books vele boeken heeft besproken. Buruma koos voor Een domein van duisternis (1964) van V.S. Naipaul, Berlin Alexanderplatz (1929) van Alfred Döblin en De liefde van een dwaas (1924) van Tanizaki Junichiro. Deze middag ging Chris Keulemans aan de hand van deze boeken in gesprek met Buruma. Het publiek was welkom om vragen te stellen. Georganiseerd in samenwerking met BOZAR.
