Writers Unlimited's video: Neverending Stories: racisme - Winternachten 2022 Neske Beks Sayonara Stutgard Zawdie Sandvliet

Dit Winternachten festival-programma van vrijdag 17 juni 2022 in Paard Den Haag vormt de achtste en laatste aflevering van de feministische ROSE Stories-boekentalkshow 'Neverending Stories'. Rachida Lamrabet ging over racisme in gesprek met Neske Beks, aan de hand van haar bundel 'Echo'. Aan het gesprek namen verder deel: spoken word artist Sayonara Stutgard en historicus Zawdie Sandvliet. Hierin legt Neske Beks de vinger op de zere plek. Niet alleen is de witte blik in onze samenleving nog steeds dominant, zwarte vrouwen delven dubbel het onderspit. In 'Echo' laat Neske Beks door middel van een verzameling van essays, brieven en speeches zien hoe stelselmatig zij niet gezien en gehoord worden. Samen doken de gespreksdeelnemers in de bundel 'Echo' en sloegen ze bruggen tussen zwart en wit, spraken ze over het belang van het werk van Toni Morrison en lieten ze de zwarte vrouwelijke stem luid en duidelijk klinken. Neverending stories is de grensoverschrijdend inclusieve talkshow van ROSE stories. Een talkshow voor een nieuw en cultureel-divers publiek, niet alleen uit Nederland, maar ook België en zelfs de Nederlandse Antillen. In de talkshow worden recent verschenen boeken besproken die een nieuw licht werpen op thematiek die relevant is voor de superdiverse samenleving. Centraal staan de verhalen van biculturele schrijvers, met een focus op vrouwelijke schrijvers, als antwoord op de zeer actuele sociaal-ethische en maatschappelijke behoefte aan authentieke en van binnenuit vertelde verhalen die bijdragen aan betere representatie van de samenleving. Neverending Stories was een initiatief van ROSE Stories, in samenwerking met deBuren, Writers Unlimited en Watershed, en werd mede mogelijk gemaakt door Literatuur Vlaanderen en het Prins Bernhard Cultuurfonds. Host Rachida Lamrabet spoke about racism with Neske Beks, departing from her essay collection 'Echo'. Further participants were spoken word artist Sayonara Stutgard and historian Zawdie Sandvliet. In this episode about racism in Dutch society, we discussed how certain groups are systematically excluded, about the colonial past, and about what must change urgently. The starting point was writer Neske Beks' 'Echo', a collection of essays, letters and speeches that show how systematic the failure to see and hear is. Writer Sayonara Stutgard and historian Zawdie Sandvliet also joined the fray. Together they delved into the 'Echo' volume and built bridges between black and white, talked about the importance of Toni Morrison's work, and let the black female voice sound loudly and clearly. Neverending Stories is the barrier-breaking, inclusive talk show by ROSE Stories. It's a show for a new, culturally diverse public, not just from the Netherlands but also Belgium and the Dutch Antilles. The show discusses recently published books that bring fresh perspectives to themes relevant to a super-diverse society. It focuses on the stories of bicultural writers and female writers in particular, as an answer to the very topical social-ethnic and societal need for authentic stories told from the inside that contribute to a better representation of society. Neverending Stories was an initiative of ROSE Stories in collaboration with deBuren, Writers Unlimited and Watershed, and was made possible with the help of Literature Flanders, the Prins Bernhard Culture Fund, 21 Fund and the Dutch Foundation for Literature.
