XANTHE's video: STUDIO VLOG 2 Lockdown Life XANTHE

@✷ STUDIO VLOG 2 ✷ Lockdown Life | XANTHE
It’s studio vlog no.2 already!? Very important links below. Please take 5 mins to take a look! VVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVV Please spend some time looking through these helpful links: https://blacklivesmatters.carrd.co/ DISCLAIMER: I’ve been learning so much since making this illustration (and editing this video) and have been very conflicted about posting this BLM illustration in any capacity. However after lots of conversations with friends about it, I decided that I still wanted to include it in the vlog as it’s important to continue the conversation and encourage education and learning in these areas. I am still very much learning - I will get things wrong along the way but I am trying. This article is really insightful about white artists making work about BLM. So here’s why I’m not posting the BLM illustration on social media ie twitter & insta: https://medium.com/design-toast/black-lives-matter-is-not-a-design-challenge-f6e452ff7821 As a white person, I don’t think that it’s right to give people the chance to repost my illustration or share it in any way because I think now is the time that we should be amplifying Black and POC’s voices. I don’t want to dull the BLM message or express pain that is not mine to feel. Also just to clarify when I said ‘At first I thought that I shouldn’t be talking about this because I’m white, but then I realised that I am the one to be talking about this because I am white’ this was my messy way of saying that white people are part of the problem with black oppression. Therefore by white people continuing this important conversation it has more of a chance of reaching other audiences who may not already be aware/ invested in this important cause. This is a process that we’re all new to as white people. Recognising and unpicking learnt behaviours or bias and becoming aware of how society is structured to keep minority groups oppressed. It’s a hard pill to swallow but an incredibly important one to encourage positive change in our daily lives. I’m really open to conversations about this and we need to keep the conversation going to boost the voices of black people and POCs. If I ever do anything wrong or to offend anyone who sees this, then I would really appreciate it if you tell me so we can have a conversation and I can learn from my mistake.
