Xpect's video: Finale by Xpect

@Finale. by Xpect
My last edit. I know it may have seen surprising to see me go without really any notice. Even though I basically didn't tell anyone, I've been planning this for a pretty long while. Since the beginning of the year, I was planning to do Ember's project + Flare's project + Friz' Project + a Marv Teamtage then finally call it quits. But I'm such a slow editor that I only got half way through. I knew I didn't want to continue over to WW2, so this was obviously the right time to end it. Don't get me wrong, it's not that I don't want to be in the community any longer. I love this community, I just want to move onto things where I can learn more and have new experiences. Motion design has been fun, but 3D has been something COMPLETELY new for me. I'm gonna strive to become someone that can be called a "3D Artist." Fun Facts for the fuck of it :D -Intention At the beginning of starting this project all I wanted to do was top Sunburst. All I wanted to do was go crazy with effects again. I wanted to stylize the fuck out of this. But, since then, I've seen many edits that, in a way, attempt the same thing... and quite honestly, they fail for that reason. They fail because they seem to dismiss the most crucial part of what an edit is - the fundamentals. I'm not gonna name names, cause honestly, it's not just 1 or 2 editors... It's countless. After I figured out what was missing from those edits, I wanted my intentions of my last edit to change. My new intention was to make a solid edit with almost nothing that looks showy. (not talking about intro) I wanted to help those editors understand that effects are cool but they should only be a plus to edits. Effects simply don't make an edit, so that shouldn't be anyone's goal. I know i'm being harsh, but if cod editing is going to continue, and new editors are going to emerge, I hope they realize this too. It'll help stop the direction these editors are taking the community in. -Paying Homage When I started the intro sequence I had no thoughts of the Skateboards=Editors. So all credit goes to my friend Darin. He loves eastereggs... So i put some in. lmao, the first person I thought of was Dreams. Then on from there I totally got what I wanted to do with these eastereggs. It was about paying homage to the editors that most influenced me, that most inspired me, that honestly just changed my life. I wouldn't have gotten into this community without people like Furran and SLP. I really mean it. I am so grateful for these editors. The real heroes -Skateboarding When I thought about my last edit, I already 100% knew what I wanted to do with the intro sequence. The whole damn thing came out almost exactly how I wanted. What I wanted to do was top all my previous intro sequences. But also have the intro sequence be about skateboards. Skateboarding is so deeply rooted into why this community began. It seems as though all the OGs were into skateboarding and made edits about skateboarding, etc. So, not only is the intro sequence about paying homage to my most influential editors, it's also about acknowledging where this community came from. -The technicalities of the Intro Sequence Modeled in Maya Rendered in Octane/ Path Tracing Composited in After Effects The intro sequence was built from scratch. Not even the skateboards were imported. They were modeled by me. The intro sequence took 3 weeks to build from scratch. But almost all those skateboard designs are 100% rip offs. I'm no designer. Please don't credit me. lol, thx. I used a TON of references images of real life skateboard parks. Here's a cool pic of what I came closest to: https://goo.gl/yJecLB The Intro sequence took 4 and a half days to render. lol, don't ask me why it took so long. So in total, it pretty much took 1 whole month. -Clip editing 1 Month Only about pacing, flow, cinematics + Transitions. Best compositing I've ever done 1:03 -The Outro sequence During the last days of editing I was worried I would have to resort to a super generic outro. But finally it hit my head that I could wrap up the theme of skateboards + text. The idea was solid so I went with it. At first I was going to use the same 3D environment as the intro sequence but the render times were longer than the time I had. So i went to Element 3D but damn those materials looked like ass. And I thought Element 3D would ruin the polish feel of the edit. I almost gave up. But then remembered that Ambient Occlusion and Wireframe ALWAYS look amazing. So I went with that.
